I love it when a genre series does the Groundhog Day episode and this is one of the best. Top marks for writers Gilligan and Shiban for not making Mulder or Scully the ones experiencing the deja vu, but this week's guest character, the late Carrie Hamilton, it gives the episode an emotional resonance that it might have lacked if it had just have been a comedy episode for Mulder to clown around whilst doing a Bill Murray. It does have great humour in it, it is very funny, but the best part of it is how the episode beautifully allows itself to become more tragic and touching in its final moments. |
